Exhibitor Q&A with Beachables

Beachables are an exhibitor at Cruise Ship Hospitality Expo. We caught up with the founder of Beachables, Mary Watters, to discuss how Beachables got started, why their products are perfect for the cruise lines, and how they are doing their bit to make a positive difference in peoples lives. Thanks for talking to us today. Can you tell us a bit about how Beachables was started?

While on vacation in Hawaii at a fabulous resort, we liked the chair covers that the pool attendants would place on the poolside chairs for the resort guests. When we returned home, we tried to locate similar chair covers for us to use at our local pool or trip to the beach, but we were unable to locate anything comparable locally or online, and what we did find was really poor quality and inferior materials. Although a practicing attorney, I have a life-long love for sewing and creating new and interesting things, so I determined to make my own high quality version of the chair cover. A few prototypes later, I had designed the beach towel, tote bag, chair cover all-in-one: the Beachable. We found it to be a very useful beach/pool-going accessory, so initially we posted a few on Facebook and got a positive response and a few sales.

We started slowly, but within a couple of months, I had found my calling and with the unwavering support of my husband Dan, I left the practice of law to devote my time fully to the development of the Beachables venture.   I perfected the Turkish Beachable design, and we launched Beachables LLC in earnest in late 2019.  We recently opened our 2nd retail location and Dan has joined Beachables full time. Beachables are currently available at more than 25 retail locations.

What products do Beachables provide, and how are they made?

Our signature product is our Turkish Beachable, a beach towel, tote bag, chair cover all in one. We recently added our skipper (short) and maxi (long) dress/coverups which are also fashioned from Turkish materials, and we just added child sizes to our line.

What makes Beachables’ products perfect for the cruise industry?

Beachables are perfect for the cruise industry because they are unique, interesting and designed with the vacationer in mind. Beachables are designed so that cruisers can consolidate their items in the large tote pocket, use the Beachable’s built in towel, and slip onto the deck lounge chair and stay secure throughout the day. The coverups are fabulous cruisewear because they transition stylishly from poolside to fine dining and everything in between.

How can you customize a Beachables product for a customer?

We offer namedrop, logo and custom embroidery options for cruise lines to brand our Beachables to be consistent with the line’s marketing.

Could you tell us a bit about Water Mission, and your overall ethos as a company?

From the very beginning, we determined that we would use our company to make a positive difference in people’s lives. One of our many philanthropic endeavours includes donating funds to Water Mission, a Christian engineering non-profit that builds safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions in developing countries and disaster areas. We also support our community by giving to organizations like local schools, organizations that provide support to cancer patients, and our local Down’s syndrome support organization. We also organized an event to feed Christmas dinner to the homeless and underserved in Charleston by providing a warm Christmas meal to more than 600 people.

Meet Beachables on booth 206 at Cruise Ship Hospitality Expo, 28 – 29 October 2021, Miami Beach Convention Center!
